METALLICA (USA) - ...And Justice for All (1983)

...And Justice for All es el cuarto álbum de estudio de la banda estadounidense de thrash metal Metallica, lanzado el 25 de agosto de 1988 por Elektra Records. Producido por el mismo grupo, en conjunto con Flemming Rasmussen, ...And Justice for All fue el primer álbum de estudio que se grabó con el bajista Jason Newsted, quien fue reclutado por la banda luego de la muerte del anterior bajista, Cliff Burton. Es su álbum más oscuro e instrumental, con un sonido dominado por ritmos de batería densos y muy acelerados, de gran complejidad en comparación a los de sus demás discos. Pese a lo que podría parecer, es un trabajo más melódico que sus predecesores, con un ambiente negativo, y unas letras más cercanas a la crítica social, política e incluso ecológica («Blackened»). Este disco se convirtió en el ascenso total de la banda al estrellato, ya que fueron nominados a los Grammy y a los MTV Video Music Awards por su vídeo "One", aunque al final no se lo otorgaran, pese a ser considerados los favoritos para el premio (el premio lo obtuvo la banda Jethro Tull). La canción "To Live Is to Die" está dedicada a la memoria de Cliff Burton, bajista de Metallica hasta su muerte en septiembre de 1986. Contiene un poema escrito por él mismo, que es la única lírica de toda la canción, y fue elaborada a base de riffs escritos por el difunto Burton. Cabe resaltar el sonido diferente a sus álbumes anteriores debido al uso de equipo distinto para acentuar el sonido agresivo. La versión japonesa del disco cuenta con el cóver de la canción "The Prince" original de Diamond Head donde a la vez en todos los singles se edito con el tema "Breadfan" original de Budgie.

IRON MAIDEN (UK) - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988)

Antes del lanzamiento del álbum de estudio Seventh Son of a Seventh Son el 11 de abril de 1988, la banda precedió el mismo con un single promocional Can I Play With Madness al que agregó un video, del cual se ocupó personalmente Terry Gilliam (director del film Brazil) y al que definió como "un cruce entre En busca del arca perdida y Monty Python, algo realmente nunca visto". Al salir el disco, escaló un fulminante primer puesto en el ranking inglés, ubicándose luego y por muchas semanas en el Top-5 británico. Al comenzar la gira las ventas se fueron multiplicando. En materia de puestas escénicas, Iron Maiden introdujo en su show distintas innovaciones. Por ejemplo, en el tramo correspondiente al material nuevo (Moonchild, Infinite Dreams, Can I Play With Madness) pudo verse a Harris haciendo coros a capella y un teclista invitado (Michael 'Count' Kenney). En el vídeo Maiden England se puede ver la gira, con una presentación grabada en Birmingham donde se presenta hora y media de su espectáculo. Uno de los colofones finales a ese "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" fue la actuación como cabezas de cartel en el prestigioso festival "Monsters of Rock", que se celebró en la localidad inglesa de Donington, compartiendo escenario con agrupaciones como Kiss, Megadeth, David Lee Roth, unos jovencísimos Guns N' Roses y Helloween.
